Video (presented at ICME 2010) is featuring real-time 3D reconstruction captured by one stereo pair:
We are developing collaborative application for virtual archeology in collaboration with UC Merced.
In collaboration with University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, we have explored teleimmersive training for stepping-in-place test (commonly used in clinical environment) where the subjects followed virtual teacher. Hip angles were measured from the 3D data and overlaid onto the virtual environment to augment the visual feedback from the 3D video.
Texture mapping:
3D reconstruction from different viewpoints using six camera clusters:
In collaboration with UC Davis we have developed a framework for remote interaction with volumetric data (e.g. geoscience data, medical data). Remote participants can in real time interact in an immersive environment.
The portable system allows teleimmersive experience at different locations since it can be easily transported.
These videos feature our improved reconstruction algorithm where 3D meshes are reconstructed in real time with 15+ FPS.
These videos feature our older version of 3D reconstruction algorithm which produced 3D point clouds with about 5+ FPS.
These videos feature live recordings of experiments with our collaborators at UIUC and UC Davis:
Remote Interaction in Virtual Environment:
In collaboration with UC Davis we are exploring possibilities to use our teleimmersion technology for remote collaboration which would allow scientists or doctors to meet in the virtual space to work on 3D data.
Remote Dancing in Teleimmersive Environment:
Through our collaboration with University of Illinois, we have successfully performed several remote dance experiments with the teleimmersion system. Physically dislocated dancers are able to meet inside the virtual space and interact through virtual touch.
TaiChi Study in Tele-immersive Environment:
Study of TaiChi learning using teleimmersive environment was performed in collaboration with Stanford University. The students performed different moves inside the virtual environment with a digitized TaiChi teacher.
Hand Tracking Using ZCam:
We have designed a hand tracking algorithm using time-of-flight based camera to interact in three-dimensional virtual environment. In the future the camera will be incorporated with the teleimmersion data.
Sophomore Seminar CS 84 (Fall 2007)
Students of this seminar worked with the tele-immersion system to coreograph and perform with different digital options (e.g. duplicating themselves, flipping, mirroring, shrinking). View some of the videos here:
Teleimmersion on BBC
Our tele-immersion system was featured on TV BBC show "Visions of the Future" (2nd episode).
Skeletonization of Point Cloud Data
We are able to extract kinematic data (skeleton) from point cloud data of a person captured by the tele-immersion system in real time.
